Reiki is a Japanese technique that aids in stress reduction and relaxation, and also promotes healing--physically, mentally and emotionally. Reiki is a way of channeling healing, divine light energy for a specific purpose, usually healing. It is done fully clothed and is completely non-invasive. The practitioner may lay hands on the receiver, or hover hands slightly above the receiver’s body. Reiki works by the practitioner acting as a “funnel” for healing energy, and directs the healing energy into the receiver. Through the practitioner's crown chakra, healing light energy enters, moves into the hands of the practitioner, then into the receiver. The energy clears blockages and opens the meridians and chakras. The energy flows where it is needed in the body, and helps any sick or unhealthy tissues or organs to be nourished.
The receiver may feel a sense of relaxation, a tingle, a warm or cool sensation, or even internal movement of energy. Each person’s experience is unique, but the treatment is most effective on a person that has an open heart, an open mind and remains unattached to the outcome. When sharing this energy, the practitioner is guided by their intuition and the intention they have set. It is essential to set an intention every time Reiki energy is dispersed, as ALL energy follows thought.
Everyone has the ability to channel this loving energy--and everyone can benefit from being attuned to Reiki! Yoga teachers can enhance their practices by creating an energetically protected and safe space, as well as administering individually or send Reiki throughout the room during meditation. Doctors, nurses, massage therapists and any healer can add Reiki to their professional practices, which will enhance beside manner and comfort to patients. Everyone that is attuned can give Reiki to themselves, friends, family and pets whenever they desire. Reiki can be sent to those in need around the world. Animals, plants and our food can be given Reiki. The possibilities are endless.
“My personal journey with energy healing has been unfolding since I was a child. All my past energy experiences became clear when I was beginning to practice yoga, about 13 years ago. I went through many energy healing trainings before choosing the Reiki attunement. For me, I feel heat and tingling in my hands, and physical pain in my body that matches the pain of the person I am working with. Everyone will sense where Reiki is needed in their own way. Becoming attuned to Reiki allowed for me to remember my path and purpose in life, and receive the messages of the divine.”

Valerie believes in a holistic approach to health and wellness that creates a lifestyle plan tailored to each individual. With continued studies in Yoga & Ayurveda, and Reiki energy healing, she combines these synergistic practices as the basis for her guidance.
Yoga and Ayurveda are part of Valerie’s daily lifestyle practices. She has been interested in wellness since childhood, and first started practicing yoga to help with digestive issues. Having been trained as a ballerina she always believed in the therapeutic effect movement has on the body, mind and soul. She believes yoga asana is for all ages and ability levels, and is dedicated to encouraging people to experience the benefits of yoga no matter their limitations.
Valerie took a special interest in the chakras and began learning about the energetic body. She was introduced to Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki when looking for a way to help a child that was having night terrors. Valerie incorporates Reiki into her daily life by cleansing the energy of the home, plants, and food, and especially while leading yoga practices. Holding a safe energetic space with Reiki makes for a deeper meditative yoga session.
