Approachable Yogic Techniques for Working with Anxiety

As a mental health practitioner, you are most likely aware that breathing, meditation, and body awareness or movement can help your clients with anxiety. Do you feel unsure of what to suggest, or unsure of who could benefit from which techniques? Maybe you even practice yoga or meditation yourself, but aren’t comfortable teaching these techniques to your clients. Maybe you have never done yoga or meditated before, but you are interested in understanding how mind/body practices can benefit you and your clients. (If you have never done yoga before--that’s ok! No previous experience required, and active participation is not required.)
This info session with cover 2-3 practical techniques that you can use as a “takeaway” for working with your clients. For your reference, you will receive a handout that summarizes these techniques. You will also be emailed a short guided audio meditation that coincides with one of the techniques in the session--and sharing the file and the handouts with your clients is encouraged!
You will also be introduced to the growing and innovative-- yet far from new-- field of Yoga Therapy (“What IS Yoga Therapy?” is a question I get asked a lot!) You will also learn a little about the Overcome Anxiety Clinic at Infinity (Link to page), a great resource for your clients and a chance for them to integrate and support the work they do with you into the other layers of being: body, breath and spirit.
All participants will receive handouts with 2-3 techniques and short guided meditation that can be shared with clients.
*The info session may include demonstration of a yoga posture, and an opportunity to try the posture to experience it if you wish, but this will NOT be a yoga class. Clothing for movement or sitting on the floor is optional, not required. Chairs are available if you do not wish to sit on the floor.
Kirsten received her 800-hour certification from Integrative Yoga Therapy, holds a master’s degree in Special Education, and is a 500-hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) and Certified Personal Trainer. As a Certified Yoga Therapist, and Trauma- Informed Yoga Teacher, she has specialized in working with individuals healing from an injury or practicing with a chronic condition, individuals struggling with anxiety or depression, couples, children with autism, and expectant mothers. She has studied various styles of yoga: Anusara, Iyengar, Vinyasa, Restorative, Tantra and Yin.
Kirsten founded Infinity Holistic Wellness & Yoga to be an oasis for practicing yoga, meditation & other healing modalities in the Chicago Loop. The group of talented and experienced instructors on the Infinity team represent a range of specialties, personalities & passion. Each instructor brings their own personal touch to their teaching; however, the common threads that tie them together are their skills all lay on the spectrum of yoga therapeutics, & that they have an ability to make yoga accessible to all beings.
