Prana is Sanskrit for Vitality, Energy, Life Force, Breath, Spirit, Movement, That Which Animates Us. Prana is the life force in all living things. Prana is vital for energy and for the best possible health. Prana has many levels of meaning, from the physical breath to the energy of consciousness itself. Prana is not only the basic life-force, it is the original creative power. It is the master form of all energy working at every level of our being; the entire universe is a manifestation of Prana. When we live in our optimal health, energy comes from within and external substances, such as sugar, caffeine, drugs and adrenaline rushes to artificially stimulate energy are not needed. We are in perfect balance, not overstimulated, nor fatigued. Everything effects our Vital Energy from the foods we eat and how much, to stress, work, relationships, sleep, activities, and how we use our energy, to how inspired and creative we are. All areas of your life are connected and affect your health as a whole.
In the human body, there are 5 Prana currents of energy or “forces of the air”, which affect our physiological functioning. The Pancha Vayu-s are: Prana, Apana, Vyana, Udana and Samana. The physiological processes in the body (respiration, circulation, digestion, elimination, reproduction, immunity, etc.) are regulated by one or more vayus. We can access our physiology through the vayus.
